About 10% of all women of reproductive age suffer from endometriosis, a mysterious disease which we know very little and not yet fully exploited.
The disease is often confused with menstrual pain. In most cases it is benign – a chronic disease of the uterine lining outside the uterine cavity, causing the appearance of severe stomach and back pains during the cycle. The pain can be so severe that women can swoon.
The most common symptoms are:
- problems with the bowels
- long and heavy menstrual periods
- increased menstrual pain
- stomach pain
